Besides, the bristle part is detachable, extra parts for medium or small bristle are also available for sale.
🖌 How to start using the Chinese paint brush?
1️⃣ The bristle should be first of all soaked in warm water (NOT hot water) until the tip becomes soft. This step is to dissolve the glue of the bristle, and allow the ink to be absorbed.
2️⃣ Dry the bristle of the brush by either hanging it upside down until the tip of the brush is resilient or using paper or tissue to absorb the excessed water from the bristle.
3️⃣ Before putting the bristle into the ink, you can gently drag the on the writing paper to ensure the hair is completely dry. This step is to allow the ink to penetrate into the brush.
4️⃣ Now, you can start to use this new brush.
5️⃣ After using the brush, it should be washed immediately in order to maintain its well ink absorbing ability. All the ink should be completely washed away from the bristle, residual ink would affect the elasticity of the bristle. You can hold the brush and let the bristle under cool running water until the water runs clear, dry them on a cloth or paper towel.
6️⃣Hang the brush on the brush rack, so that the remaining water can continue to drip until it is dry.
⚫️ How to make ink with the ink stick?
1️⃣Place the ink stone in front of you and pour some water in it. Keep the ink stick upright; hold it with the thumb on one side and the index and middle finger on the other side.
2️⃣Press the ink stick on the ink stone very lightly and start describing circular movements with the stick. After a while the ink becomes blacker and thicker. You can add some water during the grinding if necessary.
3️⃣You have to grind the ink stick until the ink is thick and deep black.
To know when the ink is thick enough take one drop of ink with the stick and put it on the rim of a white saucer. When the ink does not run down the saucer, it is ready for your session of Japanese calligraphy.
If the ink is too thick, the writing will not be fluent, because the ink does not flow smoothly from the brush. On the other hand if the ink is too thin, the ink will flow down too fast.
